Introducing DOTT’s Bang Waek Bassline (บางแวกเบสไลน์) on Blkmarket Music
The next Blkmarket Music release picks a pivotal figure of the underground Bangkok scene to deliver an intoxicating and playful minimal tech release
Blkmarket Music is back with its 12th release - after the electro bomb by JLM Werx delivered from the northern European coasts of Finland and Russia, the label now moves its focus to an artist from a completely different part of the world (as well as a definitely different sound). DOTT is an integral player of the raising Bangkok underground house and techno scene, as well as the founder of the vinyl-only label “More Rice”, intended to support Asia’s upcoming talents by connecting them within their scenes as well as with the international stage. The label also recently opened as a record shop, “More Rice Records”, in the Thailand capital.
The ‘Bank Waek Bassline’s EP features four techy, minimal pieces - groovy, playful, tight, and ultimately fun-oriented. Starting from the A1 ‘Peeps In The Room’, which we are glad to premiere here in full, the sounds head strictly towards the dancefloor, with the combination of a minimal house beat and garrulous bass being at the core of the track, while at the same time different thrilling synths are alternated keeping things constantly moving. ‘Whoops!’ follows a similar sound with its trippy underground mood, here we particularly love the work on the percussive parts including tight hats-snares-clap phases.
The B-side opens with ‘Yaan Bin’, maybe the more anthem-like track on the record. Here the melody forms a quasi-epic crescendo that winks at 90s trance - at the same time following the minimal tech-house fil rouge of the EP in its production deliverance. The immersively psychedelic ‘Someone In Your Garden’ closes the EP, perhaps our second favourite from the release, this staggering 7 minutes trip pushes the limits of DOTT’s style into a hypnotic, bass-focused minimal techno area.
Overall we loved this release, keeping things at a high quality rate while at the same time providing a fun and original take on minimal tech-house. This surely makes us want to explore more the work of DOTT and his label, as well as the underground scene he’s operating in. Moreover this is yet another example of how Blkmarket’s releases manage to move among underground genres while keeping the quality bar at a high level. We’re already looking forward to their next output.
