10 Tracks That Shaped The Sound Of New Parisian Label 'Positive Future'
Poggio and Gabriel Belabbas tell us about their new label through the most influential tracks for the sound they are forging
“Positive music for Positive people”
Parisian artists Poggio and Gabriel Belabbas recently introduced the world to their new label ‘Positive Future’, a project self-described as “strictly focused on good vibes and positive energy”.
The first release, the "About People EP", was announced this February and will consist of a 4-track various record produced by berlin-based French artists 95 Steps, Elliot and ENE (aka Ethel & Elliot Sindall). The tracks linger between a variety of styles, with heavy hints at old school records impressions. From the jazzy breaks of ‘Xmas’ to the space arpeggio maneuvers of ‘Thristle’ and the irresistible funky grooves of the two 95 Steps tracks, there’s a wide number of influences that fall under the Positive Future umbrella.
We were intrigued by the unique output of the first record of the label and we wanted to know more about the sounds that inspired this project. We asked Poggio and Gabriel to pick 5 tracks each, which helped to shape the sound of their new project.
Poggio’s PICKS:
Raw Pleasure - Keep Your Love (1996)
I often play this record when the sun begins to shine. It is perfect for one of those epic mornings spent arm in arm with friends.
The Mystery's - Struggle For Life (1989)
For me this is the perfect way to start a party: a proper party always starts with a good disco set. +++
3.5 - Creator (1997)
The kind of groovy deep track that makes me bring back my bass face. What a vibe.
Artificial - Authority Over the Fish (1999)
Breakdance, straight to the windmill.
Maikl - Nattle Rash (1995)
That moment when you hang in the dark corners of the club with your hoodie over your head.
Gabriel’s PICKS:
Vulva - Doggy Bag (1996)
One of my favorite electronic tracks ever. A pure beauty that inspires me a lot. I would have totally loved to produce or release this one on Positive Future.
Rose Royce - It Makes You Feel Like Dancin' (1978)
Because a good old funk record is always a good idea. This is pure groove and good vibes, it’s all about this magic touch that makes you bounce. A huge inspiration.
On - Southern Freeez (1992)
I picture myself playing this one in the afternoon under bright sunshine while holding a cocktail, preferably on a beach and with a lot of good people dancing around with a big smile.
Takbam - Untitled (1998)
When I arrive in da club with the gang.
Soul Capsule - Law Of Grace (2001)
For me, this is simply the most beautiful electronic dance track ever. This track probably changed my life. I’ll always remember that feeling of pure joy I had when the switch goes on at 4:14.
