7 Non-house Songs That Influenced Tiago Walter

Frankfurt underground’s rising star picks some non-house songs that inspired his musical paths, to celebrate the release of ‘Be Low’ out now on Jisul

Tiago Walter is one of those quiet ‘stars’ on the rise in the underground scene - in the last few years he got from playing all over Frankfurt perfecting his craft to delivering his first original LP on his Jisul label, touring Japan among many other countries in different continents and launching the Walt Ever project with his friend and music associate Phil Evans last year. The feeling we get from his output is of sincere passion for what he does, delivering fun in a creative yet curated way both in his productions and behind the decks: in short - the kind of DJ you’d want to see inspire the next generation of club goers.

2022 is starting with a bang for Tiago, with the deliverance of the ‘Be Low’ EP, once again on his imprint Jisul. This is a funky-charged house record in the fresh style that Tiago is getting us so fond of - I feel like basslines in particular element of this EP - citing the Soundcloud preview text: “As Bruce Lee once said, “basslines can be funky and basslines can be low. Be like basslines, be low, my friend”.”

We love the sound of this record so much and thought it was a perfect occasion to dive into Tiago’s influences of his music production style - for this feature we asked Tiago to pick some songs that particularly inspired him, outside of the house music realm. Get ready for some funky basslines from Germany, some Brazilian & American classics, and some emotional and edgy 2000s experimental pop.

Pyrolator - „Ein Weihnachtsmann kommt in die Disco“

One of the Tracks Phil Evans and me used to listen to a few years ago when I started to get into the German new wave sound. It shows that german music can be funky too ;)

Palais Schaumburg - Deutschland kommt gebräunt zurück

Also one of the German new wave tracks I listen to when I need to remember that there are no rules in music.

Azymuth - Manha

This must have influenced me somehow because I have listened to this song over 1000 times and I never get tired of it. Azymuth is too good!

Joao Gilberto - Aquarela do Brasil

Joao Gilberto is one of my biggest inspirations in total, but from him you can really learn what minimalism is. Just compare his versions to the originals.

Roy Ayers - Love Will Bring Us Back Together

One of the Tracks which just makes me want to dance. I always try to reproduce some kind of the same feeling in the studio. The groove needs to be there.

Michael Jackson - P.Y.T.

It’s hard to pick a favorite from Quincy Jones. Always timeless and pure inspiration. Period.

Schneider TM - Reality Check

Schneider TM inspires me to show my emotional and poppy side through electronic music.
