Look Perry Is Releasing A Dynamic & Hard-hitting Release On Underyourseat

We review the dancefloor-slamming ‘Future EP’ and premiere a track in full

‘Future EP’ Cover

Underyourseat just celebrated its tenth release: shortly after entering 2022, on January 7th the label dropped a hard-hitting four-tracker available exclusively on its Bandcamp, by the previously released artist Look Perry. Starting from Future (Paradise Mix), the release presents an inventive mix of different underground styles - you got a taste for 90s retro influences, with a rhythm combining a straight-up 4/4 kick with broken beats, as well as sweeping ethereal pads for an ultimate dreamy feeling. At the same time, the sounds are sharp, clear, especially in its mixdown the combination of elements results as effective as it is well-pursued.

The second track features a different version of ‘Future’ - the ‘Vision Mix’. I feel like here is perhaps the way the synth lines are placed and succeed each other that takes the highlight. This track also hits hard despite its more ‘trippy’ nature, with an inventive composition as well placing some funky synth lines next to its pad in its mid-track moment, just to return to its bassline-madness as the track moves towards its end.

Next up we got our favourite on the release: the original mix of ‘Jumper’. Here Look Perry develops his sound on a faster tempo, combining an emotively charged two chords played on high pads with a steady, tight rhythm and a bouncy bassline. To note as well: the delightfully mixed acid synth line coming in at the right points in the track - instead of being just slammed in as a central imposing element, it’s cleverly used as a well-fitted element when needed. More of this, please!

Chicago’s master DJ Jes closes up the record with his remixed version of ‘Future Paradise’, an hypnotising beat pattern where a central hit-hats/kicks work and driving bassline are contoured by synth stabs and short vocal samples for an ultimate groove.

Overall this is a great release pushing the sound of old school influenced house and techno to its most improved current form. We are sure we’ll hear some of these tracks around as soon as dancefloors are open again and can’t wait to give it a shake!
