Barcelona based label, Gamine, is back with their fourth release. Since their start in 2019, Gamine has been coming through with some killer releases and making quite the name for itself. GMN04 is no different. The EP titled, ‘Echelon’, by Signal Corps is a 5-tracker that pushes a combination of deep and gritty techno and electro.

Signal Corps, the duo behind the release, consists of Mike Perkowitz and Tom Butcher. With an initial full length (8-track) album released back in 2013 under the same title, we are excited to see a more refined EP getting released almost ten years later. The preceding Gamine release, produced by Random Factor (AKA Carl Finlow) in 2021, was one of the label’s best releases to date. GMN04 therefore had big boots to fill.

In the premiere track, ‘Distant Traces’, acid is the name of the game. Relentless, pounding acid. Its punchy acid sound, paired with its grainy arps gives the track an eerie feel and sets the tone for what will take place later in the EP.

A similar, more mysterious vibe follows with the next track, ‘Command & Control’. Here, there is more arp action, wetter acid plus rhythmic and moody stabs. The clue is in the name with the next one: ‘Deep Target’. This track is much deeper and more melodic than the first two and gives the listener a rest before jumping straight back into the harder stuff.

The penultimate track, ‘Lossless’, reintroduces the high energy but also prepares us for the final track by keeping things fairly spacey. Floaty pads paired with subtle acid provide the ambiance, whilst wiggly arps bring back the grit and energy that was present in the first few tracks. The final track of the EP, ‘Aliasing Seas’, continues the journey through space whilst also preparing us for the landing. The warm bass provides the groove on this one, whilst the delicate pads help you sink further into your chair. This deep and psychedelic track will surely leave you with a feeling of euphoria, as any concluding track of a dance floor-based EP should.

Not only can this EP from Signal Corps wreak havoc on the dancefloor, it can also provide a hazy soundtrack for the final stragglers at the afters.
